I can’t remember the last time I trained at my own house, which seems strange as most of my parkour beginnings were in my old house’s backyard. My current house has no backyard, a front deck area, a fence, a tree and two brick entranceway to the neighbour's driveway. It’s hard for me to train at home when I live 10 minutes from town and 15 at Aotea square, in fact I can get a pretty good right foot ankle warm up in before arriving... I digress. Location/Access: 2.5/10 It’s not a destination and only massively accessible to myself. The house itself is opposite a small park with two unclimbable trees, nice to look at but that’s it. Don’t come around at midnight jumping on my shit, I’ll get angry because my wife will be yelling at me to get you out of there. Pesky traceurs. Obstacles: 2/10 Like I said a deck a tree a fence and the driveway entrances. Overall a poor selection of obstacles, not my first choice. The tree sheds all types of moss, bark and lichen into your eyes whenever you grab it and there is a small lache to the fence woop. You can practice climb ups on the poorly installed over grip I put on back when NZ was getting shit from all the international communities about how pathetic our climb ups were. Luckily for us now we no longer get any feedback about climb ups, in fact we just don’t get feedback :) The piece de resistance is the driveway entrance way, 4 blocks put together to form the only movement worth completing at my house: a 9 step pre. For some it’s a warm up, for some it’s impossible, for me it’s not a warm up or impossible just harder than a warm up, so it sits there not being used. Maybe one day the inspiration will return for me to this spot and train the hell out of it, and fortunately/unfortunately that day may be coming soon… Being forced beyond your will to leave your immediate area makes you get creative about training. We have all been there at Aotea waiting for 40 minutes for your friend to arrive. Knowing that I am going to be spending a tonne of time at my house I am thinking of building some simple obstacles, namely a vault and a block to land on simple all I need right? I hope so.
Overall 2.3/10 Don’t come train at my house, train at your own, at least not until I have built some obstacles.
