I trained properly at the Ivy House for the first time in December. Earlier believing it to just be two walls of a car ramp that Matt and Jared liked to kong - cat (or cat - arm jump for you pesky purists), I was always one to vote against training here. However Maika and Matt took me on a good tour of the area and I have to admit that there is a lot more to do here than I had previously acknowledged. Accessibility: 7/10 Pretty much the same as Symond's Garden, as it is directly next door to it. A pretty quick (but uphill) walk from Aotea Square, multiple transport hubs nearby. Unfortunately the area is only accessible for training during non-working hours. As the spot is split into two sections around 90 Symonds Street, the white spot depicted below could be somewhat hard to find. You will have to use your good old spidey-senses to figure out where that is. Location: 3.5/10 Ugly and boring for most of the area; just monochromic concrete. There is the pretty badass building to the side that the spot is named after that we all wish we could climb or even own, otherwise though the area is bland as. The best bit about the place's location is that it is in between a bunch of other training spots on Symond's Street. Obstacles: 7/10 A lot of concrete walls with varying sizes and gaps in between making it a great place for drilling different forms of vaults and precisions. If you are lucky enough to get access to the ivy house itself, that could lead to some pretty unique lines. Bring Matt along if you want to see him casually pull some pretty beastly moves. Overall: 5/10 It's not too bad a spot, especially if it is part of your day training all of Symonds. I would love to see more traceurs creating unique lines through these obstacles.
